I bring my inspirational message of courage and personal transformation to corporate and association audiences. My story of self-discovery is a roller coaster of emotions, hilarity and entertainment. l challenge my audience members to listen to their inner voices, examine their careers and lives, and make the changes they need, but fear. I won't convince everyone in the room to quit their jobs and move to France, but that's the risk of hiring me. My presentation is ideal for anyone in a rut, anyone afraid to take risks or take the next step. It's a great way to get participants thinking about embracing change, chasing dreams, and trying new things.
As well as my Courage to Change presentation, I also offer a humorous exposé on the business of writing and publishing. I'm adept at explaining the ins and outs of getting a book ready for publication. My presentation on writing takes my audience through the process of story idea, story arc, outlining, first steps to writing, editing, agent querying and writing book proposals. A must for anyone who feels they have a story in them just waiting to get out, but are daunted by the enormity of the task.
I'm a graduate of Western University and the University of Ottawa law school. I've held high-level legal positions in government, and companies operating in the technology, finance, shipping and network marketing industries. Mid-career, I won the Richard J. Schmeelk Canada Fellowship. This financed my two-year sabbatical at Laval University in Québec City to learn French and watch hockey in bars with separatists.
At the height of my career as a lawyer, I ran away from my profession to once again live in a French milieu. This time it was a clichéd year in Provence with my family. Immersed in the French joie de vivre, my year of soul-searching convinced me to close my legal practice forever and chronicle my journey from miserable lawyer to fulfilled human being in my memoir, The Next Trapeze. Think of Eat, Pray, Love for people who need a job shakeup.
