Marilyn E. Strutchens is an Emily R. and Gerald S. Leischuck Endowed Professor and a Mildred Cheshire Fraley Distinguished Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Auburn University where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses and serves as the secondary mathematics education coordinator. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Advisory Committee for the Education and Human Resources Directorate for the National Science Foundation. She is a past president of AMTE.
She has also participated in several national initiatives, including the NCTM’s Principles to Actions Toolkits (writing team) and Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators’ (AMTE) upcoming standards for mathematics teacher preparation (writing team). She is the leader for the Clinical Experiences Research Action Cluster for the MTE-Partnership, a coalition of 90 universities organized by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities to transform secondary mathematics teacher preparation. She recently served as co-chair for the Pre-service Mathematics Education of Secondary Teachers Topic Study Group for the 13th International Congress of Mathematics Education. She also co-directs TEAM-Math, a partnership of universities and school districts in east Alabama focused on improving mathematics teaching and learning. She is a former member at large of the executive committee of the Conference Board of Mathematical Sciences. She has written several articles and book chapters and served as a co-editor for a number of monographs and books. Marilyn also served as the editor for the JMTE Special Equity Issue in 2012.
Her research interests include equity in mathematics education, field experiences for secondary mathematics teacher education candidates, teacher leadership, and reform mathematics professional development for grades K-12 teachers.
