Overview: This session will cover the changes to the to the blueprint for the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Routing & Switching (CCIE R&S) program, based on the December 4th, 2013 announcement of the version 5 of the blueprint. We will cover what has been added, what has been removed and what has been updated. We will also talk about the addition of the diagnostic section to the CCIE R&S and its purpose.

We will also talk about the changes to the logistics of the practical exam, a move from a combination of IOU (IOS over Unix) and real routers and switches to a 100% IOL (IOS over Linux) model. We will contrast the version 5 and the version 4 of the CCIE R&S exams. Unlike the version 4 blueprint, the version 5 has different blueprint topics for the written exam and the practical exam. These topics are also going to be used within the new diagnostics portion of the practical exam. The CCIE R&S is still a two phase process, written qualification exam and then the practical exam, which is still an eight hour exam, but now is a three part exam, rather than two as in the version 4 of the blueprint. 

This session will focus primarily on the practical exam, but we will perform an overview of the written qualification exam and what has changed compared to the version 4 blueprint. 

Why should you attend: For those wanting to obtain their Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Routing & Switching (R&S) certification, you need to know what is going to be tested on within the exam. Cisco has just announced (on December 4th, 2013) the update to the blueprint to version 5 for both the CCIE R&S written exam and the CCIE R&S practical exam. Unless you have already schedule your lab date before June 4th, it is unlikely that you will get a date for the version 4 of the practical exam and will need to prepare for the version 5 of the blueprint. Johnny is a Cisco 360 R&S Master instructor; the first to achieve this level outside of the organization that created the program. Johnny is also a contributing author to the Cisco 360 version 5.0 of the workshop part 1 and workshop part 2 for the CCIE R&S version 5. Johnny also is the author of the “Stupid CCIE Tricks” series of books. He is also a regular speaker at Cisco Live/Networkers in the US. In addition to his teaching engagements, Johnny is the owner and President of Bass Consulting Services, Inc, a network engineering consultancy based outside of Seattle, WA specializing with service provider and large enterprise networks for design, configuration, and troubleshooting support. Johnny lives in Gig Harbor Washington with his wife (Tiffany) and children (Sean and Cayman).
