Merv George Jr, was born and raised in Humboldt County and has been a lifelong resident of the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation and the Eureka, CA areas located in Northern California.
Merv is a graduate of Humboldt State University with a degree in Native American Studies (1997). He has spent over 22 years managing natural resources and in public service.
Merv also served four years on the Hoopa Valley Tribal Council and spent two years as their Tribal
Chairman (1998-1999).
Prior to joining the Forest Service, Merv served as the Executive Director of the California Indian Forest and Fire Management Council and also served as the Administrator for the Klamath River Inter-Tribal Fish& Water Commission.
Merv has served the Forest Service at the regional and forest level since 2008. His first assignment was serving the Pacific Southwest Region as the Regional Tribal Relations Program Manager (2008- 2011).
His next permanent assignment was moving home to the Six Rivers National Forest as the Deputy Forest Supervisor (2011-2014).
Merv served as the Acting Forest Supervisor on the Lassen National Forest from January 2014 through May 2014 and was then selected as the 13th Forest Supervisor for the Six Rivers National Forest in August of 2014.
