The American Society of Safety Engineers will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2011. Founded in 1911 as the United Association of Casualty Inspectors, the Society was formed in the wake of tragic events such as the March 1911, Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in New York City. The 30,000 plus members of ASSE, the world’s oldest professional safety organization, look forward to commemorating 100 years of dedicated service to workplace safety and health. Safety 2011 will include special events and displays that will celebrate the anniversary.

Founded in 1911, ASSE is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. Its more than 32,000 members manage, supervise and consult on safety, health, and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education. ASSE is guided by a 16-member Board of Directors, which consists of 8 regional vice presidents; three council vice presidents; Society president, president-elect, senior vice president, vice president of finance and executive director. ASSE has 16 practice specialties, 151 chapters, 28 sections and 58 student sections.
