Keynote Speakers

Yong Zhao

Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas Creative, Entrepreneurial, and Global: 21st Century Education

In this keynote address, Dr. Yong Zhao debunks the myths that misled American reforms and proposes a new paradigm of education for the future.

Education reforms in the United States have been guided by misunderstandings of education in the age of globalization. As a result, the efforts to improve education in America have not only damaged the traditional virtues of American education but also wasted precious resources and opportunities. For America to survive and thrive in the age of globalization and smart machines, we must correct the course immediately. Instead of focusing on fixing the past, we need to work on inventing the future.

Dr. Zhao currently serves as a Foundations Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas and was previously the Presidential Chair and Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon, where he is also a Professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy, and Leadership. He is also a professorial fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Health and Education Policy, Victoria University.
