Infocast's Ballast Water Management Summit

Overview

  • Ship owners/operators: Attend to assess technologies, learn how to select systems for new ships and retrofit old ones to comply with the regulations, and gain guidance from the regulators.
  • Regulators (US Coast Guard, EPA, IMO, state environmental agencies): Meet with other regulators and all the stakeholders along the ballast water management chain.
  • Shipping/maritime associations: Attend to get the latest information and compare notes and meet with stakeholders along the chain
  • Marine equipment suppliers, shipbuilders, water treatment and testing specialists: Attend for the latest regulatory, scientific and business updates and to meet stakeholders along the ballast water supply chain

Internationally, shipping transports over 80% of the world’s commodities – and with that, somewhere between 3 to 5 billion tonnes of ballast water internationally each year. But ballast water has transferred invasive species to environments where they don’t belong – causing irreversible damage in many cases.

Now, new regulations for ship ballast water management are being implemented by the US Coast Guard – for some ship owners, within the year – that could cost shipowners billions of dollars for expensive retrofits. New ships will have to be built with compliant ballast water management systems as well.

The challenges are enormous. How can suppliers and retrofitters ensure that systems will meet the requirements for compliance? What ballast water management system is optimum and how do you ensure you retro-fit your ships in a way that achieves compliance most cost-effectively? How will type-approval processes intersect with compliance deadlines?

For answers, attend Infocast’s Ballast Water Management & Technology Summit, February 25-27, 2014 in Long Beach, CA. Join all stakeholders – ship owners & operators, the regulators, water treatment specialists & suppliers, port authorities, shipping associations and others – to exchange information and strategize cost-effective, practical solutions for compliance, now and going forward.

Our pre-summit briefing, titled: Ballast Water Treatment Technology Advances, on February 25, 2014, will drill down into all the available technological innovations, plus an assessment of the ballast water market going forward.
