Fiesta really is one of America's truly great festivals. It began as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That commemoration still takes place. But over the past century and more, Fiesta has grown into a celebration of San Antonio's rich and diverse cultures.
With a soundtrack of mariachi, blues, jazz, rock, and country music, Fiesta is one of America's truly spectacular festivals. Since 1891, when the first Fiesta event, The Battle of Flowers, honored the memory of the hereos of the Alamo, Fiesta has expanded the festival to celebrate San Antonio's rich and diverse culture. More than 3.5 million people attend Fiesta, many of whom line the River Walk and cheer as decorated barges float on the San Antonio River carrying festive bands.
