Adherence 2017: 12th International Conference on HIV Treatment and Prevention
Adherence 2017 (the 12th International Conference on HIV Treatment and Prevention Adherence) is scheduled to take place June 4-6, 2017, in Miami, FL, USA. The annual series of conferences is dedicated to the presentation and discussion of HIV treatment and biomedical prevention adherence research, as well as current behavioral and clinical perspectives in practicum, within the context of achieving an optimized continuum of HIV care and prevention.
Decisive global targets, including attaining 90-90-90 by 2020 and ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, lend a sense of urgency to translating cutting-edge research findings into public health policy, clinical practice, and support systems that facilitates getting more people tested, linked to care, on combination prevention, including antiretroviral therapy, while doing so in a way that allow for maximum individual, community, and public health impacts.
Adherence 2017 is sponsored by the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC). The conference's Co-Chairs are K. Rivet Amico, PhD (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA) and Michael J. Mugavero, MD, MHSc (University of Alabama at Birmingham, AL, USA). The conference Track Chairs are Thomas P. Giordano, MD, MPH (Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, USA); Jean-Jacques Parienti, MD, PhD (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Caen, Caen, France); and Jane M. Simoni, PhD (University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA).
The target audience for this conference includes physicians, nurses and nurse-practitioners, pharmacists, psychologists, behavioral scientists, social scientists, public health specialists, epidemiologists, social workers, case managers, peer educators and navigators, and community health workers working in the field of HIV medicine. The conference may also be of interest to individuals who wish to implement and advocate for effective, evidence informed HIV policies and interventions in their respective communities and countries.
This activity will be accredited for physician continuing medical education and nurse continuing education credits, respectively. Psychologist and pharmacy continuing education credits will also be available. Applications are pending with continuing education accreditors.
Adherence 2017 provides the opportunity to meet with more than 400 key members from a variety of practice settings including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers, and many more. There are a limited number of exhibitor spaces and sponsorships available for this conference.
The Physicians Association for AIDS Care (PAAC) was the first organization to support US physicians in the mid-1980s as they ministered to people who, given limited treatment options, were quickly dying of AIDS-related complications. PAAC was the precursor to the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (IAPAC), which was incorporated on 7 February 1995 to represent HIV-treating physicians and allied healthcare professionals worldwide. Today, IAPAC is known as the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care - a name change that took place on 1 December 2012 as formal acknowledgement of the contributions made by various cadres of professional and paraprofessional providers of HIV prevention, care, and treatment services.
