Spend three days in March with us at Nutrition & Health: State of the Science and Clinical Applications, sharing nutrient-rich and tantalizing meals with likeminded learners at a beautiful desert destination and gathering insights on nutrition, prevention and healthful living from internationally-recognized researchers, clinicians, educators, authors and chefs.
Our goal is to provide health practitioners with an understanding of the central role of nutrition in health and healing. To provide a scientific basis for the integration of nutrition and medicine in order to practice preventive and therapeutic nutritional medicine.
Why you should attend
Your patients increasingly call on your advice for diet and nutrition to promote good health and treat specific conditions. Proper diet is a fundamental building block to good health, yet many practitioners lack the basic expertise in nutrition to recommend dietary strategies to their patients.
To meet this growing need, this course will provide you with essential information on:
Practical strategies for incorporating nutrition into your clinical practice
Using diet to prevent illness
Nutritional recommendations for management of specific conditions
Tools to evaluate the latest nutrition research findings
Social and political aspects of diet and health
The conference provides an overview and practical summary of the latest information on nutrition and health presented by leaders in scientific research, clinicians skilled in nutritional medicine, experts on food and agricultural policy, and innovative chefs.
What you will learn
Upon conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
Incorporate nutritional information into clinical practice and advise patients about eating for optimum health as well as using dietary change as a therapeutic intervention
Evaluate the benefits and risks of nutritional recommendations for specific health conditions through an analysis of the existing scientific and clinical evidence
Recognize the emerging science on the impact of the microbiome on health and disease
Describe current controversies and state of the science regarding carbohydrates, proteins and fats
Understand the relationship of particular foods and nutritional components to mental health
Identify the health value of specific nutrients and protective phytochemicals and evaluate dietary supplements
Analyze the social, political, and behavioral aspects of diet and health and implications for patient care
Practice Gap & Needs Assessment
Nutrition is one of the major influences on health and longevity, but physicians and other health professionals are rarely educated in this area. They are often unaware of the latest scientific findings on diet and health and are therefore poorly prepared to advise their patients about designing a diet for optimal well being or using dietary change for management of disease.
This conference will provide an overview of the latest information on nutrition and health, including practical strategies for incorporating nutrition into clinical practice, using diet to prevent illness, nutritional recommendations for management of specific conditions, and tools to evaluate the latest nutrition research findings. The conference is designed for physicians, dietitians, nutritionists, nurses, personal chefs, pharmacists, naturopaths, and other professionals who make nutritional recommendations as part of their professional practices.
The topic and program for this conference were developed by an advisory group based on feedback from participants in the 2004-2015 Nutrition & Health Conferences, data collected from clinicians who have taken part in University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine nutrition modules, literature fostering effective nutrition counseling by practitioners and documentation of increased demand for nutrition education for health care professionals, as clearly demonstrated by the overwhelming success of the previous twelve conferences.
The Nutrition & Health Conference leadership takes special measures to expose our attendees to leaders in the field of whole foods and high quality dietary supplements. Brands that exhibit at and/or underwrite our conference are not only a good philosophical fit but also represent the best products that can serve the health and wellness of our attendees and their patients.
If your organization has a similar philosophy and goals, we want to work with you. Below are some simple guidelines on the types of brands we seek. Service organizations will be assessed based on strategic and demographic fit with our conference attendees. We do not support anti-aging products, but believe strongly in healthy aging.
Supplements, food items, and topical preparations will be vetted for quality and manufacturing practices. Additionally, we consider the brand values and product/service quality of our exhibitors' parent and holding companies; they also should be in good standing with global regulating agencies, and have demonstrably good practices in quality, health, social and environmental regards. Any health or medical claims made in product promotion must be evidence-based, and in compliance with FDA and FTC regulations.
Other criteria are as follows:
No genetically modified soy, or other GMO products
No soy protein isolate
No hydrogenated trans fats
No fructose or high fructose corn syrup
No artificial flavors
No artificial colors
No glandular ingredients in supplements
Preference will be given to companies that meet the following standards:
Natural pressed oils
If you think your company and/or product would be a good match, please submit the underwriter interest form, and staff will get back to you shortly.
Disclaimer: This is a CME/CE event through the University of Arizona, and there are no faculty endorsements of products during the conference. Any endorsement arrangements must be made outside of this venue, including any audio, video, photographic or other reproduction. The above are general guidelines, and do not guarantee exhibitor space; conference leadership reserves the right to screen each exhibitor/underwriter independently. Space is limited, and exhibitor opportunities are subject to availability.
