Volanti Introduces 4K Video Walls at HD Prices

EventsInAmerica.com (EIA) spoke with James Henry, CEO, of Volanti Displays at the EXHIBITORLIVE show in Las Vegas.

 

EIA: Tell us about Volanti Displays.

 

Henry: We make video displays designed specifically for events, exhibitions and the corporate AV market – with a difference. We’ve packaged solutions that are very easy to transport, easy to set up, highly reliable and use state-of-the-art video technology.

 

And who are some of the customers you serve?

 

The music industry for events, the corporate market for tradeshows, and any corporate user where the client wants advanced AV.

 

What does ‘advanced technology’ mean in your business?

 

Presenting more than just a good image is increasingly important. The quality of presentation and video has become much more mainstream and interactive over the years. For example, we now have 4K ultra HD 84” displays that are fully interactive. They support the kinds of presentations that people are doing today when they’re incorporating video.

 

Tell us more about interactivity and how it’s being applied.

 

In the beginning it was overhead slides. Then it was Powerpoint. Powerpoint then took on a little more of a multimedia capability. But now, people are going into more non-linear types of demonstrations, where they need to be able to interact with the video screen, jump around and maybe respond to what the audience is asking. So, for example, if you’re demonstrating certain types of products, you might want to jump back and forth between applications and features, to give the audience a much more comprehensive feel for what you’re trying to present.

 

What was the genesis of your company and this technology?

 

It goes back to the ‘80s when I thought LCD technology – or certainly flat panels – were going to be the future of displays. I’ve been at this now for almost 30 years. LCDs have taken over from CRTs and have transformed video. For example, our Cube product, in which we’re able to put up to 6 square panels into a cube configuration, allows us to present something that is really attractive and appealing in a retail environment, or a corporate presentation or an exhibition-type environment.

 

Last night, here at the ExhibitorLive show, you won an award.

 

Yes, we won the Buyer’s Choice Award, of which we’re extremely proud. It was for our FORZA Mobile Video Wall, which is a 2x2 video wall that packs away into its own transport case. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to set up. It’s very robust, very reliable and easy to put together in a trade show.

 

How many employees does your company have?

 

About 55 and they’re located in Silicon Valley, Hong Kong, London and India. We design the electronics and all the enclosures and do all of the assembly. We’re able to customize our products to whatever the client wants.

 

Any new products or promotions?

 

We’ve just released a 4K 2x2 video wall at a new price point, putting it in roughly the same price bracket as a 2x2 full HD video wall.

 

How does content get onto your screens?

 

We support everything that supports an HDMI output.

 

So an exhibitor, or music company or advertising agency can produce all their content in-house and be able to deploy that content onto your screens.

 

Yes, very, very easily. For example, at this show we had some late content come in on a USB stick. We put that into the USB port on a PC and now it’s running on a screen behind us.
