Toronto Seeks More Convention Business from the US
EventsInAmerica.com (EIA) spoke with Rita Medynski, CEM, Sales Manager for The International Centre in Toronto at the IAEE Expo! Expo! in Los Angeles.
EIA: What does the trend line look for Toronto in 2015?
Rita Medynski: All of our businesses are up. We just hosted a large manufacturing show and all the shows are growing. The industry is taking a turn for the better. Consumer shows are reporting a 30% increase in attendance, so it's a very positive outcome.
What brings you to IAEE?
We draw most of our business from Canada, usually Ontario. We'd like to see more conferences from the US, so we're trying to put together a Canadian pavilion to stir up more international business.
Why would a planner bring her conference to Toronto?
Because of our thriving economy. There's a lot of opportunity there that meeting planners can tap into. Our economy is growing with a large saturation of different kinds of businesses. And there are four major venues -- two that are near the airport, and two that are near downtown Toronto.
What makes your particular venue unique?
At The International Centre, we have half-a-million square feet of exhibit space with a conference center. We offer free parking, which is a bonus for attendees, so the show can bring in more attendees -- and we're right across the street from the airport. Bring your business to Canada!
