Managers of smaller industry events often find it difficult to match the software services offered by their larger counterparts. Is there a solution for them? Durga Mikkilineni thinks so. EIA: Tell us about your company and what you do?
Mikkilineni: Eventdex provides a full suite of event management apps at affordable prices for small- to medium-sized clients. We provide everything from registration to lead retrieval to match making and attendee check in.
Who are some of the types of customers you serve?
We started with diversity events for women-owned businesses and minority businesses. Our sweet spot is from 200 to 2,000 attendees. A lot of times, event owners will say ‘I can’t afford a big brand that charges a lot of money and I have to use multiple companies to get the apps my event requires. Isn’t there one player who can provide all the services I need at an affordable price?’ Eventdex is that solution provider.
What’s your unique differentiator?
Our suite of apps brings buyers and sellers together. That’s the match-making capability of our product. It’s one of our biggest differentiators. And we’re very affordable.
What 1 or 2 trends do you see developing in the trade show industry?
RFID is old school. Now the emphasis is on i-beacons. Owners and planners are asking: ‘What intelligence can we gather and how do we identify potential buyers and opportunities?’ So we’re seeing an explosion in new tools like data analytics, big data and blockchain – using those technologies to get more intelligence out of an event.
What’s the outlook for your company in 2017?
It’s very positive. We’re enhancing our software by integrating it with CRMs such as Oracle, SAP and other major players. We’ve also integrated i-beacons, so event owners won’t need external devices. Our product works well with that technology.
What 1 or 2 tips can you offer event owners or planners to ensure they have successful events?
Event owners are always challenged by tight budgets and limited resources, so in order to make their events successful, they need to work with a strong technology partner who has a strong platform. From day one, you want a partner who can do the work properly at a reasonable price.
What do you like most about attending IAEE Expo! Expo!?
The players are top notch. Almost everybody in the meeting industry is here.
