'Content Looks Incredible on the Displays We Rent,' says APG's David Weatherhead
EventsInAmerica.com (EIA) spoke with David Weatherhead, President, APG Displays at the ExhibitorLive 2015 conference in Las Vegas.
EIA: What do you do at APG and what value does it bring to the events community?
Weatherhead: We are a wholesale rental supplier of video walls and large format displays. We service the exhibit industry and other audio-visual companies so they can create large, immersive video wall experiences for their clients. We’re a full service company with a large inventory of video wall equipment. We ship it and install it for our clients anywhere in North America.
EIA: You don’t produce content but you’re able to display the content that anyone produces.
Yes, we work closely with content providers. We know how to get the most out of our displays, so when talking with content companies, we can make sure their content pops and looks incredible on the displays that people are renting.
There are several video wall display companies here at the show. Why would a company choose APG over some of the other providers?
There are really two reasons. One is we’re wholesale only; we never rent to end users. For a lot of the trade here, we’re a partner they can work with over the long term. The other reason is we only do video walls. That’s our specialty. We know the product inside and out, arguably better than most, I think.
How is your business shaping up for 2015 and beyond?
It’s really exciting. More and more people want video in their trade show booth. For experiential marketing, you can create these really immersive environments and get people engaged with your brand. Business has been growing.
The display you have here is both beautiful and immersive. But how does beautiful translate into ROI for the user?
It’s all about engagement. In a trade show environment, how do you stand out from everyone else? Creating an immersive environment gets more people into your booth space, or your office building, or wherever you’re trying to engage people. And then the more traffic flow, the more return on investment you’re going to get.
Do you have any new products or services that you’re launching in 2015?
We’ve really increased our rental fleet of the 55” video wall, which is brand new. It’s the X554UN from NEC. And we’ve also been hiring more technicians across the country so we can service people faster with more efficiency.
What’s trending now for your business?
I think touch screens are quite important and we have a line of large-format touch screens, which is another way to drive engagement. When you can add interactivity into video and presentations, that’s important, so we’re covering that in our rental fleet.
